It’s one of our most common questions—so let’s break it down.

If you’ve ever booked a grooming appointment and been asked, “Trim or haircut?”—you’re not alone. A lot of pet parents aren’t exactly sure what the difference is, and that’s totally okay! At Dog Krazy, we’re here to make things clear so you always know what to expect when your pup comes in for a spa day.

A Trim Means:

  • Light shaping or tidying

  • Touching up the face, feet, feathering, and sanitary areas

  • Keeping the body coat the same length, no clipper work over the full body

  • Perfect between full grooms or for dogs who are growing their coat out

Think of a trim like a maintenance appointment. It keeps your pup neat and clean without taking off much length. It’s especially great for breeds like Golden Retrievers, Australian Shepherds, or long-haired mixes who don’t need a full-body haircut but still need help keeping things tidy.

A Haircut Means:

  • Full-body styling using clippers and/or scissors

  • Removing length across the entire coat

  • A specific look or style (like a breed-standard trim, etc.)

Haircuts are what most Doodles, Shih Tzus, Schnauzers, and Poodles get regularly. These dogs need their hair cut down to prevent matting and keep them comfortable and cute.
